A Nation Divided to a Nation United
From media to politics to the local diner, the dialogue across America has become increasingly angry and polarized, with a rapidly shrinking middle ground. We are a nation too often focused on our differences rather than on our mutual challenges. Creativity and innovation, inherent in exploration, discovery and meaningful dialogue, have lost their standing as fundamental American activities. In education, business, science and civic life, we are missing opportunities to shape a positive future together.
Envisioned by Eric Fischl and led in partnership with artists across the country, the goal of America: Now and Here is to bring people together, to inspire respectful conversation about America through the shared experience of art, and to renew our appreciation for exploration, creativity and innovation as individuals, communities and as a nation.
Launching a Great American Journey in Kansas City
Extending the legacy of American journeys that have defined Kansas City’s pioneering spirit, Kansas City proudly hosts the first America: Now and Here installation and begins what promises to be a historic national dialogue about America.
In collaboration with local cultural partners, America: Now and Here, Kansas City, will offer a collection of innovative programs and dynamic events in the heart of the Crossroads Arts District where audiences of all ages and walks of life are invited to contribute their own message for America. With creative forums planned for all audiences, ranging from community yoga and collaborative crafting to lunch-and-learns and cross-cultural family activities (and everything in between), we highly recommend checking out the full calendar for yourself!
Programs are central to the America: Now and Here mission to foster meaningful conversations about America using art as a catalyst. Conversations will explore themes such as great American journeys, special memories, hopes for our country, and the roles innovation and creativity must play in our future.
America: Now and Here presents a cross-disciplinary experience in visual art, poetry, music, theater, and film as the foundation for engaging audiences in a unique American experience. Through art, people will come together for timely dialogues about America, sharing their insights, ideas, and points of view. Through the America: Now and Here experience, everyone can participate in an exciting national conversation and contribute to this historic American journey.
